Royston Turquoise ring + Miss Me Jeans + Dex + Danskos + a little shimmer = all Lindsay, mySTYLE december {Mama's mySTYLE Giveaway Winner!}

Clothing
top: Dex top compliments of the Style Lab inside Salon del Sol.
jeans: Miss Me - Vivid Flower Border Boot Cut Jeans, find them here.
shoes: Dansko Mary Jane's with an embossed floral design, seemingly unavailable. Find something similar here and here.

Accessories
hair: Cut and style by and compliments of Cassie at the Wild Horse Salon in Bayfield.
earrings: Festive dangling stars from Claire's.
bracelet: Pretty by JL Custom Charm Wrap, customize one here.
rings: The beautiful turquoise ring had belonged to Lindsay's Grandma. After a tiny bit of research, I'm betting the origin of the stone is the Royston Turquoise Mines in Nevada. We aren't sure where Lindsay's Grandmother purchased the ring. If the stone isn't Royston Turquoise, it sure looks similar and you can see more Royston Turquoise here. Her other ring is opal and sterling silver, purchased in Durango, CO.
nails: Gel mani with a subtle sparkle/clear polish {absolutely gorgeous + Lindsay could be a hand model!!}, compliments of Salon del Sol in Bayfield.
makeup: Bare Minerals, compliments of Salon del Sol in Bayfield.

Early in the month, I parked in one of the diagonal spots on 8th St. in Durango, east of Main. It was drizzly, and it took me several minutes once I was parked to get organized and out of the truck. I'd arranged for a sitter for Elle West, but had Evley with me. True should have been in school but was not. He had had a terrible night's sleep, practically restless, and I really should have kept him home. But, I'd already rescheduled my coffee date with Lindsay once and didn't want to do it again unless it was completely necessary. So he came along. Two kids is an improvement over three on a coffee date, right?

I looked up and out my front windshield as a woman was passing by, walking the downhill grade toward Main. I hadn't seen Lindsay in person in years, just around Facebook here and there. Is that her? I wondered. The woman had a windbreaker on, with dark hair peeking out from her hood around her face. She glanced up for just a moment, and then continued with long easy strides down the sidewalk; her hands ever so cooly in her boyfriend jean pockets.

True made his way to the sidewalk from the truck like he was participating in a rodeo, as I went for Evley's car seat...I actually probably looked more like a rodeo doing that. You know what I drive. It's quite the hoist in and out with Evley's seat.

Anyway, finally with my purse all but the size of the carseat on my right shoulder, the infant car seat in the crook of my left arm, and a hooded True bug next to me, we made our way down the sidewalk.

Inside Durango Coffee Co. it was buzzing with a variety of customers visiting or shopping and having coffee. I stood there looking like I did and scanned the room for Lindsay. She appeared from behind some product shelving, and made her way toward me. I say me because True had moved on.

Lindsay's hood was down revealing her halfway pulled back hair and chunky modern eyeglass frames. She was effortlessly cool and seemed at one with Durango. When I asked her what'd be, and she said a mocha, I knew we'd hit it off.

Meanwhile, True was rummaging through the drink cooler. He arrived at the counter with a blue Powerade and a Blue Pomegranate Honest Aide, "Look Mom, your favorite drink."

I had to buy both because it was so sweet of him to know. I drank as many of those when I was pregnant with Elle West as I did iced mochas with Evley. Well, maybe.

We found a round table at the back that was up against the bench and with one chair. I parked Evley on the floor, situated True on the bench, and went to the counter to collect mine and Lindsay's mochas. I also grabbed a couple cups of water, and our small table was soon very crowded.

Lindsay was obviously friendly. But quiet, like she was a tad uncertain what this circus was all about. I began poking around and here's what I learned about her:

How was your Thanksgiving?
Non-traditional was how she responded. I should say so! She, Russ (her husband), and her boys (ages 5 & 2) rafted Cataract Canyon. Typically a 5-6 day trip, they did it in 4. And they'd just pullover and camp the nights in-between. She assured me that this sort of thing was possible (with 2 kids) due to their use of a motor + oars. Okay, so, she doesn't just look cool. She really is cool. And to think I was just complaining about have 2 kids with me in the coffee shop...Um, okay moving on.

Tell me a little about your boys.
Orin is five and is curious. He likes to do experiments, explore, take things apart. He likes seeing how things work and riding his bike on ramps.

Rowan is two, and well, is pretty much defiant {laughs}.

How about your husband?
Russ and I met in college, Michigan State, we were both there for Forestry Degrees. We've been married for 11 years. Russ recently started a business in Durango called Studs Lumber. Basically, it's a way to buy local lumber for construction projects. They have a website and put together complete framing packages. It's going well. {learn more here, this is awesome & super interesting if you need lumber for a construction project}

How would you describe each of your boys with one word...
Orin? inquisitive
Rowan? defiant
Russ? driven

Where are you and Russ from?
Michigan

What brought you to Durango?
A job with the Forest Service

Tell me more about what you do now.
I work for Ecosphere Environmental Services. They're a consulting company in the Oil & Gas Industry. I work in GIS which essentially is mapmaking. I'm working on getting a masters in GIS-Geographic Information Systems. Ecosphere is an excellent company to work for.

How do you spend your family time?
Getting out.

How about Mama time?
Mmm...I'd say mountain biking.

Do you have your Christmas tree up yet?

Lindsay and I managed all of this while True drew {my notes are pretty tough to read...as if my handwriting weren't challenging enough to decipher. yes. I still handwrite notes.} He also shopped. He brought me the same Transformers lunch box to look at nineteen times while Lindsay and I visited. I bought it because he was good for the most part, and because he really like lunch boxes.

But, by this time Evley was getting hungry and so was I. Our conversation had become natural and easy. I left hoping that we could do it again sometime. Only next time I won't take notes.

A week later, Lindsay had a fun day in Bayfield. If you can't remember all of the goodies she won, you can check out the Mama's mySTYLE Giveaway details again, here.

Once she was finished with her hair, make-up, and nails we met for lunch at the Tuning Fork. Afterwards, we headed for our shoot location on the Pine River. Esther has wowed me again. This might just be the best shoot we've done all year. I love these photos. Love them. And I love that Lindsay's in them.
Dear Lindsay,
Thanks for participating in the giveaway and for being so darn cool! I'm thrilled to have gotten to know you better and hope to get together again {on bikes would be awesome}! I also hope that you enjoyed yourself despite all of our charades {or because of them, either way}!

Well, by golly by gosh, there goes the year! Just like that we did a style post every month for the entire year. Esther and I had fun, and have decided to do it again next year. Yep, we'll do another giveaway too ;)

I've got two other collaborations lined up for the PRETTYblog in 2015, so stay tuned!! We're going to get started on all of it in January. If you don't yet receive new posts in your email, you can sign up for that here so you don't miss anything.

happy Happy HAPPIEST New Year!!! I hope it has wonderful things in store for you and your family! Thank you for reading and being a part of my family this year. See you next year, heheehee =)

Lucchese Boots + MZ Wallace + Mossimo + Splendid + the Tuning Fork Cafe = mySTYLE november

Clothing
tops: Both Mossimo from Target. Find the sweater here and tank here online, but I bought them in the store.
leggings: Splendid Modal Leggings. They are non-maternity, but I used them while pregnant. They are perfect for both! {I do NOT like panels on my belly during pregnancy, so they were perfect for me.}
boots: Lucchese Mad Dog Goat 5 Toe boots, in burnished tan. Mine are darker from being oiled- they are about 5 years old and I bought them at BootBarn. You can get mine here, a darker pair here, or these lovelies for a tad less.

Accessories
bag: MZ Wallace Jane bag. Aaah, I have such a thing for bags. Boots & Bags. At any rate, I love MZ Wallace bags. This is my 1st of two. And I'd love to make this Jane my 3rd {Santa, are you reading?}!!! You can get mine here and a baby version here, but I'd encourage you to browse them all. I've been none too careful with this wonder bag for about 5 years now, and it's still goin' strong! Oh, and what diaper bag? Yep, I don't use one. I stash what I need for baby in the rear zipper pocket and have for all of my kiddos...a plus to carrying a larger purse!
necklace: This is a David Aubrey piece that I bought nearly a decade ago when From the Heart was still in business, in Durango. I can't find anything quite like it now, but he makes some gorgeous things. You can browse his necklaces here.
bracelet: A Pretty by JL Stacked Wish Bracelet. I made this with the holidays in mind, and it's been fun & effortless to wear. You can customize your own here.
rings: Find these details in January's mySTYLE post here.

Well HELLO! Yes, I totally yelled that!! How are you?! Are you ready for the fast approaching holiday season?! I am not. But, I like to tell myself that I'm getting there! One thing is for certain, the holidays will come and go, ready or not, and we'll be right back here next year in a blink!

Esther and I thought we'd get coffee for this month's shoot. I do it everyday anyway, although 80% of the time I've got Evley in the Bjorn. So, this view is a little deceptive. So also, is my being the only one in line at the Tuning Fork. Today when I went in for my mocha, it was right smack in the middle of the lunch rush. I stood in line, almost to the door, and when I finished the line was nearly out the door!

So, minus my not wearing Evley in these photos and there not being anyone else in line, the photos speak the truth. Except for maybe the one where I'm standing in the alley with my eyes closed and face into the sun. I don't normally do that...well, not in the alley anyway. In my backyard I definitely do. There isn't much better a thing than soaking up some Colorado sun when there's a hint of chill in the air!! Plus, it makes for a sorta-cheesy-but-super-fun-photo ;)

Back to truth. The smile on Kellie's face as she rings me up is also true, line or not. The Tuning Fork's food cannot be beat is also true. Once upon a time, if I'd had errands to run in Durango, I'd look forward to having lunch out while I was in town. Not so anymore. If I have errands, and want lunch out, I try to make it back to Bayfield for lunch at the Tuning Fork. Truth. You. Can. Not. Pick something off the menu that is not AMAZING. At the Tuning Fork Cafe. If they were to close up shop, I might move.

Hey, hey! Am I killin' ya yet?!!! We DO have a Mama's mySTYLE Giveaway winner. And she's got her jeans, I've made her accessory, she's hoping to shop at the Style Lab tomorrow, and her Bayfield fun day is scheduled...packed full of pampering + her style shoot {and of course, lunch at the Tuning Fork}!

Congratulations...
Lindsay Gartner!!!

Dolan blouse + Frye boots + cowboy hats + teal + a hint of mission = mySTYLE october {family photos}

Clothing
top: My Dolan blouse is from Anthropologie over 2 years ago. It's no longer available, but this dress is amazing. Shop everything by Dolan at Anthropologie here.
jeans: Oh, just another pair of bootcut Miss Me jeans...I think I got them in TX at Woods Boots. I definitely wear this brand of jeans more than anything else right now. Their fit is pretty flattering and I like the bling pockets. However, I do miss the Miss Me jeans without bling and would like to find a simple, blingless, pair.
shoes: Mmmm...my Billy Heel Frye boots. I've had these for over 5 years now. I just have new heels put on every couple years, and Landis gives them a good polish then. This style has been unavailable for awhile. But these and these would give a similar look, although mine are tall {not booties}. But, I looove the second bootie option!

GVC: Carhartt shirt & pants, Wrangler hat, Oakley frames and Tony Lama boots.

Kids: All of the kids are wearing gifts from Cassie! She found Elle West's outfit at Target and couldn't resist it...so then, had to buy Evley & True something, too {she said!}. Score for us and how amazing that it all coordinated so well! Thanks millions Cassie!!!

Elle West's blouse and skirt are Genuine by OshKosh. Her boots are Roper.

Evley's dress and cardigan are Cherokee, and her shoes are Freshly Picked in frosted rose. Her headband is from Target, too!

True has on a shirt by Shawn White from Target, Wrangle Jeans and Ariat boots. His hat is a very loved hand me down...not sure of the brand, but can check if you want to know!

Accessories
bracelets: Carico Lake turquoise cuff by Jesse Robbins and from Tohatin. Pretty by JL monogrammed geometric adjustable bracelets on me, custom Pretty by JL charm bracelets on Evley & True, and a Pretty by JL friendship bracelet on Elle West. I'm redesigning all of the shop's listings right now, so there isn't much to see today. Check the shop next week for custom and ready-to-wear Pretty by JL pieces.
belt: J. Crew patent leather skinny belt in wine. I bought that belt about the time I bought those boots. Unavailable, but this is similar.
nails: DIY with sensatioNAIL gel polish in ocean sparkle & heirloom lilac. I bought mine at Wal-Mart, but you can order here, too.

Oh my. If pictures by Esther weren't on your wish list yet...they are now, right? Every time that I decide I have a favorite photo, one that can't be beat, life continues to happen and Esther gets another amazing picture of it. I know I bragged on Esther in last month's post when you got to meet her. But, come on now, she just doesn't stop!

She took something around 360+ photos; narrowed down my proofs to 160+; I narrowed that down to 50 for the blog files, and ended up sharing the above 16 with you. This. Shoot. Was. Amazing. I'm just going to go ahead and stop with that now. Go check in with Esther to book a shoot for the family, and just keep reading to learn how you might get one for yourself for free.

Alright, so since Evley can hold her head up now it was time for family photos. The result was, well, art. G and I had not really had family photos taken until now. We married ourselves, with True as our witness when he was two, and used a tripod to take our own wedding photos. That was wonderful. But needless to say, I was super excited {and a bit anxious...} about getting real family photos taken. There are so many more fantastic ones. But you get the idea. I wasn't sure that we'd all stay clean, but we did. And I wasn't sure that'd we'd all be happy, but we were. Esther did the rest.

Ever since we started these posts back in January, I have been eyeballing this month's backdrop; wondering if it would make for some interesting & pretty photos. I love, I mean love, old buildings. And I also love the nostalgia of the old west, and the charm of little old towns.

The photos were taken in True's school yard. Yes, you read that correctly. The building behind us in the photos is the original school in Bayfield; built in 1923, and less than a block from our house. It's a two story building and originally used the second floor, with two classrooms, for the high school and the first floor, with two classrooms, for all preceding grades. I'm going to snap a photo of the front this afternoon and post to Instagram {@prettybyjl}.

The original front of the building is no longer used as the front. The original structure was added on to at some point, and there have also been two modulars added to the property to use for classrooms. The gym and cafeteria, plus a couple maintenance buildings and the parking lot {dirt}, are across the street. The whole getup is sort of...multifaceted & rural-small-townesque. But just exactly the sort of thing I love. The school has been recycled and used, over and over again. It'll be a sad day for me when classes finally quit being held there.

Anyway, the old green trim, white washed stucco, and hint of mission in the architecture compliments our style perfectly. When I look at these photos I can't help but to get a how the west was won sort of feeling, if there is such a thing. I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate that into our Christmas card this year, because I will definitely be using one of these photos.

I'm doing my best not to go on and on like normal. I did an update post last week, so most of you know what's going on with us. Now{!!!}, I want to tell you what's coming up!

You might have seen the above recently...here on the PRETTYblog, IG, or on FB. Well, next time you see it it will be time to enter!! On Monday, I will do a post with complete details and the easy peasy instructions for entering! But, here's the scoop a little in advance...

But it doesn't matter whether you're pregnant with your first, adoption papers are filed & approved, or you're a great grandma to fifty, you've just got to be a Mom!
